I bought a Sony STR-DG910 and figured I needed to buy this thing so I would be compatible when I finally got an i-pod larger than my shuffle. My kids have used it a few times with their i-pods and it seems to work OK, but the i-pod control and display are not that convenient and I have not yet upgraded my i-pod. I was a little disappointed about how much this thing cost.I installed an old airport express into my home theater system and now my kids play their i-tunes music library on their computer through the home theater system using their i-pod touch as the remote control - much cooler than using this contraption. That is probably the way I am going to go, so I guess I now have an expensive i-pod charger - maybe not, we will see.
It turned out that both of our newer gen iPods worked just fine. I purchased this so that my wife and I could play our iPod collections through our surround sound system. One thing I've noticed is that if you keep your iPod docked in it, after you turn your receiver off, the iPod sometimes stays on, and you manually have to turn it off. It works wonderfully, the setup was easy, and its a great price. The only thing that worried me when I received the packaging was that it wasn't compatible with either of our iPods, even though it said so on the website, or didn't imply that it wasn't compatible. Not a huge issue, because once you turn your receiver back on, the power returns to the unit, and recharges the iPod itself. I am very glad I made this purchase, and would highly recommend it to anyone that has a Sony setup for their home theatre system.
I love using the IPOD Port with my Sony HT. Of course, the IPOD is also charging while connected. No regrets. You can navigate through your IPOD using the remote while viewing your playlists on the TV screen. I couldn't find it in stores, and when I did, they wanted $60. Got for less than $40 from Amazon.
If you use the Sony's software interface, it won't play Ipod video. I have read all the reviews on this product, so I'm not going to repeat what others have said. Hope this information helps other reader. I was concerned that TDM-IP1 could not play Ipod video, such as podcast and movie. The good news is that - yes, it plays Ipod video when you choose to control the ipod manually through the scroll wheel. Overall, I like this product. I just wish the Sony interface works better.
I love this DMP. I use it constantly while in my study (with my new Sony surround system) where before I was purchasing speakers that well, stink. I even bought a pair of Sennheisers and they are great for mobile listening/watching but I very much prefer using the dock. I almost bought an AV system I didn't like as well until I discovered the DMP capability on my Sony HCT100.
